How Ruby on Rails Started

Originally, David Heinemeier developed Basecamp, a project-management solution application, not created as a standalone framework. With the success and interest of Basecamp, Heinemeier directed his company, 37signals, into application development and production. In July 2004, the beta version was released as an open source software. 1.0 was released in December 2005.
